Climbing
How To Use The Wall
Everyone who climbs must fill out a climbing waiver in the presence of a member of the climbing staff (kids under 18 must have a parent with them to sign the form the first time they climb).
Anyone 14 or older is welcome to come down to the wall any time it is open to have a staff member belay them up the wall. Kids under the age of 14 must have an adult with them to climb and will be belayed one time, as we ask the parents to take the free safety class, so you may directly work with your child!
The climbing staff is glad to belay you as time permits but will encourage everyone who enjoys climbing to take one of the free safety certification classes to “learn the ropes.” Once you have completed the class and have demonstrated the skills you learned you will be welcome to come and utilize the wall anytime we are open. Experienced climbers may test out anytime the wall is open, and climb during any open club hours using our Unsupervised Climbing Certification.

What About The Kids?
The climbing staff will belay a child one time and then we ask you, as a parent, to take our free safety class. Once certified you are welcome to bring your kids down to the wall anytime it is staffed and climb for as long as you like. Climbing as a family is a great way to spend time together and to get the kids involved in a fantastic sport, building confidence, strength and stamina.
Kids under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult and are not able to belay. Other than that there are no age restrictions, although it is suggested age 3 is a great starting point. If you feel comfortable with your child climbing we are glad to help you get them up (and down) safely. Our full body harnesses start at 33 lbs, so get them started early!
Getting Started: Come down and have a member of the staff belay you up and show you around and definitely come to one of the free safety classes, just show up at the appointed times. (Saturday and Sunday at 2pm sharp)
Climbing is great fun and incredible exercise! Come on down the staff is eager to meet you. So don’t wait another day to take advantage of Lakeshore’s climbing wall!
